Hunted

back

I see you.

Scouting.

You’re alone. But I know the rest waits just in the distance.

I’ve been spotted, but not for long.

I hide in the bush

Watching you.

Eyes fixated on the predator in front of me.

The air tightens.

The possibility of being seen sharpens my senses.

You starve for purity; your teeth itch to pierce something fresh.

I’m just out of your reach, as you sniff the air, finding my scent.

I hear the crunch of sand beneath your weight as you draw near.

This isn’t the first time I’ve almost been pinned.

A feint. A turn you can’t follow.

This will be the last you hear me.
